Bringing the Outside In

How to Style a Small Space Without Sacrificing Style
Being a student, I think I can share a few tips on the subject. Small rooms have a reputation they don’t deserve. Yes, a tiny flat or compact bedroom presents challenges. But it also presents an opportunity to be genuinely creative with every centimetre. The homes that tend to look the most intentional and characterful are often the smallest ones.
The first rule of small-sace decorating is to stop trying to hide the room’s size and start working with it. Low furniture keeps the eye moving horizontally, making a room feel wider. Mirrors, especially large, floor-lenght ones, create the illusion of depth and bounce light around beautifully.
Colour is your most powerful tool too. Contrary to popular belief, dark colours don’t necessarily shrink a room. A deep forest green or moody navy on a single wall can actually add drama and dimension, making the space feel curated rather than cramped.
Storage is everything. Ottomans with hidden compartments, beds with built-in drawers, wall-mounted shelves that draw the eye upward, these are the unsung heroes of a small-space living. The less visible clutter on the floor, the larger the room will feel.
Finally, don’t skip on personality. A bold art print, a vintage lamp, a stack of beautiful books…Small spaces reward personality. You just need to be selective about where you place it.
