The Return of Maximalism – More is More

Just when we had convinced ourselves that less was more, maximalism cam crashing back through the front door, and honestly, it couldn’t have arrived at a better time. After years of white walls and bare surfaces, people are craving warmth, colour, texture, and above all, personality in their homes.

Maximalism is not, as some might assume, simply a lack of restraint. Done well, it is an extremely considered aesthetic. One that layers colours, patterns, and objects in a way that feels abundant rather than chaotic. The difference between a maximalist room that works and one that overwhelms lies entirely in curation.

The key is to choose a dominant colour story and let everything else speak to it. Rich jewel tones (emerald, sapphire, burnt amber etc) work beautifully together. Layer in different textures : velvet cushions, woven throws, silk lampshades. Mix patterns, but keep them within the same colour family to avoid visual noise.

Gallery walls are having a particular moment. Floor-to-ceiling arrangements of mismatched frames, combining photographs, illustrations and mirrors create a deeply personal backdrop that no minimalist room could ever achieve.

The beauty of maximalism is that it evolves. You add to it, swap things out, let it grow with you. Your home becomes a living portrait of who you are, and that is a rather wonderful thing
