The Unexpected Comeback of Vintage

The Unexpected Comeback of Vintage – Why Old is the New New
Something fascinating has hapened in the world of interior design : the most coveted homes today are filled not with brand-new furniture, but with pieces that have already lived a life. Vintage and secondhand decorating has gone from budget necessity to genuine aspiration, and it shows no sign of slowing down.
The appeal is multi-layered, There is the environmental argument, buying secondhand is one of the most impactful choices you can make as a consumer. There is the economic one, a beautifully worn mid-century sideboard from a car boot sale will almost always outperform its flat-pack equivalent, in both quality and character. And then there is the aesthetic argument, which may be the most convincing of all.
Old things have soul. A patinated brass candlestick, a worn leather armchair, a set of mismatched vintage dinner plates, these objects carry history. They make a home lived-in and loved, rather than assembled from a catalogue.
The key to making vintage work in a modern home is contrast. Pair an antique wooden coffee table with a cleanlined contemporary sofa. Hang a gilded ornate mirror above a minimal console Let the old piece be the star, and let the modern surroundings give it space to shine.
The best hunting grounds ? Charity shos, estate sales, eBay, Vinted and local antique markets. If in doubt, ask me, I know some gem spots.
